Name: Steven Slater
When did you join #TeamHunter? January 2018
Did you have any experience playing rugby before? And what attracted you to rugby?
Only previous experience of rugby was the odd game at school but the PE teachers were only interested if you already played outside school so there was no encouragement or coaching to develop skills. Frankly I came to the Hunter's new player session with a friend because I wasn't busy doing anything else but I'm so glad I did, it was the best decision I made in years.
What was your first training session with The Hunters like? And what made you come back?
My first training session was on a cold January day with ice still on the pitch, I was set to running around, rolling on the floor in the freezing mud and sent clattering into tackle bags and I loved every second of it and the Hunter's haven't got rid of me since.
What have you enjoyed the most about being a Hunter and what is your favourite memory so far?
I've loved the challenge of learning rugby from scratch and making some great new friends. My favourite memory by far was being part of the team at "Touch My Brum" when we won The Eden Tankard.
What does being part of the Hunters mean to you?
Friendship and acceptance of me exactly as I am.
Finally, to anyone reading this who is thinking of joining with experience or no experience playing rugby, but who haven’t yet decided to #showusyourtackle, what would you say to them?
Get out on the pitch and throw yourself into it because whatever happens you'll regret not doing it far more than you ever would from having a go.
